Today, January 5th, Starbucks debuted their newest “creation” the Latte Macchiato.
Oh did I mention I love coffee too. Like it is also a big deal.
As any other self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur, I had to check it out.
First and foremost anytime I do a Starbucks review, please keep in mind every Starbucks location is different.
This is my disclaimer.
I have had great coffee at one location and disturbing concoctions at another.
I have had amazing recipes by Barista Anna and a miserable attempt of joy by Barista Frank.
So with that said, lets focus on the Latte Macchiato.
What is a Latte Macchiato?
Before I get into the specifics of the review, let’s make sure we are on the same page about what the drink consists of.
Latte: Steamed Milk and Espresso
Macchiato: Shots (1.5+) of Espresso, Foam on Top. The term “macchiato” is Italian for “marked”.
Latte Macchiato: Steamed Milk and Espresso. The milk is steamed and the espresso shot are added LAST. This is to create the bold flavor. In a traditional Latte, the espresso is added first.
Know that I have educated with useless coffee knowledge that I am embarrassed I didn’t even have to Google.
Tall Latte Macchiato with One Splenda, stirred
The Taste: Like 2% Steamed Milk. Just like the Flat White I tried last year, the drink had an overwhelming taste of Steamed Milk.
I knew espresso was there
I believed it was there. It had to be there..Somewhere
But I was not able to taste it.
I want to try this drink again at another location. Partially b/c I had the same taste review for the Flat White that I also got from this location.
If that doesn’t solve the issue then I want to add another shot of espresso so see if that awakens the coffee taste.
After that… I think I will stick with my usuals.
JANUARY 6, 2015 UPDATE: I tried the Latte Macchiato again with a Long Shot. Much better. I like to actual taste coffee in my drink. Not sure if it is a fav but definitely better than the first go round.
Has anyone else tried the Latte Macchiato? What are your thoughts?
